Expert system is the most active and most applicative branch of artificial intelligence. If applying expert system to the fault diagnosis of military armored vehicle, it can save and utilize experiences and knowledge of experts, combined with the relevant knowledge in aspects of the diagnosis, to improve the experience level and efficiency the maintenance staff. It is suitable for finding real solutions to multi-modal, innovative and complex problems in actual combat.This article describes a practical application of the decision tree-armored vehicles fault diagnosis assistant system based on the decision tree. The system was set in the demand for information technology combat of our army. It makes an achievement on.NET platform and the use of a database on SQL Sever 2000 in accordance with the requirements of customers and has the functions of data collection, knowledge management, machine self-learning, explanation to fault diagnosis etc. This system can ensure functions. In the meantime, it provides users with more convenient and friendly operation.This thesis starts from the research background of system and present research situation in and abroad as well as significance of achievement. Then, it makes a brief introduction about the traditional architecture of fault diagnosis expert system and its related concepts as well as the more popular inductive learning algorithm (decision tree classification algorithm). Next, it expounds the core algorithm of decision tree ID3. Meanwhile it compares and analysis about decision tree classification algorithm. In view of the disadvantages of ID3 algorithm, it projects AID3 algorithm based on attribute priority correlation. Later, this article focuses on the design and implementation of the system. The design part sets about the needs analysis, systems overall architecture and ideas of realization. It puts forward an overall solution design of system and makes a detailed explanation on system function design and database design. The realization part introduces the realization methods of various modules in system. Finally, this thesis illustrates the test of system and experiences in practical operations. Meanwhile, it points out the aspects which need to be improved.
