A Research On Design And Setting Of Urban Road Guide Sign System Except From Express Way

As a traffic sign, route guidance sign can guide and lead traffic information. By use of color, shape, character and graphics, it conveys direction, location, distance to traffic participants, and it provides complete and system information guidance service to road user. So, the scientific and rational setting of route guidance sign can guide the traffic flow and guarantee the road unlocked.With urban development and large-scale construction of urban roads, the network grids of urban roads have formed. However, the route guidance sign with service function has not keep pace of the development of urban road, and some new problems has emerged in its design and setting. At the same time, there is no systematic and scientific regulations on the setting of route guidance sign in the existing national standards.The setting situation of sign in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Nanjing and so on are investigated, the setting characteristics of route guidance signs are analyzed, and the common problem are analyzed, for example: the guiding information is overload so that the effective information can't be identified in the short time. The discontinuous information is dissemination so that the important information is omitted or the information is interrupted. The route guidance sign system is imperfect and the sign can't be set based on the road function and travel demand so that the need information can't be obtained.Based on this, the information quantity of sign and the setting method of route guidance sign system are researched in this paper.First, by analyzing the sign recognition process of the driver, we summed up speed, information, driving experience on visual characteristic of the driver, and researched the relationship of information, driving experience, speed and recognition time in laboratory experiments and outdoor road tests, and introduced the reasonable information of route guidance sign when the speed was 40km/h and 60km/h.Second, by analyzing the route choice characteristic of driver and the information demand characteristic of trip purpose, we introduced the division method of information grade, the structure and classification of route guidance sign system, and the setting method on road function for each sign system in this paper.Finally, we improved the sign setting in Hefei roads in accordance with the sign setting method proposed in this paper and verified its feasibility.
