Study On Strategies Of Urban Renewal Design Of West Extended Area Of Imperial City In Shengyang

Shenyang is one of the historical and cultural cities in China. The Imperial City of Shenyang is an old area which has Shenyang Palace Museum as the center as well as the urban traditional core area. The Imperial City is also the major commercial district with many historical sites and cultural landscapes in it and surrounding areas. The development of the city is facing many conflicts such as urban renewal, business development and the protection of cultural resources which must be resolved.The paper did a lot of analysis and research on the problems caused by urban renewal based on the urban design project of west expansion area of Imperial City, then proposed the three aspects of urban renewal strategy: the structural convergence of urban space, the functional integration of commercial core and the heritage of imperial culture.Based on the analysis of the evolution of urban spatial structure, the paper established the spatial order of west expansion area from the perspective of integration of urban spatial structure, thereby forming the space layout of western expansion area. First of all, the two axes converged the two kinds of urban fabric which formed the overall structure of west expansion area; Secondly, the motif of "city" in Shenyang Imperial Palace has built the two "city"s of west expansion area, which formed the area control center; Finally, the gradient spatial levels, spatial order of grid and the retractable spatial sequence formed the space layout of western expansion area.The paper derived the business function location of west expansion area by researching on the layout of the overall city business district, then established the concept of the city shopping parks with business concentration and environmental optimization as the core which has formed the business function distribution of urban public space as the guide,pedestrian street as the framework and integration of three districts. On this basis the paper proposed the strategy of space environment design in following aspects: interior of shopping behavior, three-dimensional space for walking, identification of the business environment and systemization of landscape design. The Imperial City has deep historical and cultural heritage which formed the Imperial culture-based regional culture in urban development process. By analyzing two aspects of the cultural resources of the region from the material culture and non-material culture, the paper established the cultural resources development strategy of modern interpretation of traditional culture, special cultural festival show and construction of regional cultural space. On the other hand, the paper proposed the heritage strategy of cultural carriers: symbol extraction, formal abstraction and scene memory.
