Nowadays, the development of automation technology of power system and the concept of Smart Grid and digital substation have made important influence on power technology. At the same time, the growth of power system mades the communication field growing up. Substation and its automation technology has become key point of our view. Power systems are becoming larger and more complicated and digital substations are making demand of communication technology. So it becomes our main research trend.The development of communication systems in substations should be combined with the application of industriy to produce a new generation with the core of Ethernet. FlexRay bus system shows an excellent technical performance. So the development of low-level communication system based on this high-speed, reliable and upgrade bus is necessary. With the financial assistance of our city sience commission, the paper has studied network and protocol of FlexRay bus, and has completed experiments on the platform based on the startkit from freescale. It includes multi-nodes mechanism research and related tests on communication mechanism, FlexRay serial communication and the ATD module experiment. In addition, the paper has researched the high-speed FlexRay bus' application in substation low-level system on the basis of those experiment and research. It also puts forward the design of framework of low-level substation and related technologies, including control and protection device and its converter.In addition, the paper puts forward the substation low-level communication network' simulation system based on power station simulation platform. It realizes high-speed and reliable transmission of automation system data through remote monitoring experiment such as field data collection and equipment control, to validate the feasibility of this communication system.
