Based on ArcGIS Server and Flex technology, using dynamic change of land use, landscape pattern and ecological risk assessment method, a WebGIS version mangrove information management system was built. Compared with the traditional WebGIS, it is easy to be developed, and has beautiful interface, strong interaction, good user experience, etc., and can make full use of system resources to achieve the best allocation of resources. This paper first discussed the background and significance of the Pearl River Delta mangrove Information Management System, stating the construction need of the Pearl River Delta mangroves thematic management information system in Internet and information age. Secondly, the applications of GIS in mangrove research, WebGIS development process and research status, status of ArcGIS Server and Flex applications in WebGIS were reviewed, besides the study area, the purpose, contents, methods and technical route of this study were introduced. Thirdly, combining with specific operating of this system development, system development platform (RIA with Flex technology, ArcGIS Server platform, ArsSDE spatial database with SQL Server) and key technologies of system development (client component development, Java EE server architecture, Tomcat server, geoprocessing service) were introduced and analyzed. Fourthly, this paper focused on the theory and method of evaluation and analysis functions in the Pearl River Delta mangrove management information system, including dynamic change of land use, landscape pattern and ecological risk assessment. Finally the Pearl River Delta mangrove information management systems was built, which was analysed and presented from requirements analysis, overall design, data processing, database design to demonstration of functional modules in detail. The results indicated that:(1) This paper showed the main design idea, processes and functions realization. Based on ArcGIS secondary development this system achieved basic operation of map, layer management, elements query, searching and positioning, marking the drawing, measuring area and length, and other functions. At the same time, land use dynamic change analysis, landscape pattern analysis, and ecological risk assessment functions were also realized in this system. In addition, the system interface is beautiful, interactive, and runs smoothly.(2) In the land use dynamic change analysis module, information entropy of land use structure was used to reflect overall degree of order, evenness and dominance change of landscape in mangrove wetlands. Land use dynamic degree measures activity leveal of each land class in the study period, but specific reasons for this change, size and direction of the activity were quantitatively analyzed by use of land-use transfer matrix. Land use structure, land use information entropy, land use dynamic degree and land use transfer matrix analysis method were interrelated and progressed one by one, which contribute to analysis and showing land use change information in mangrove wetland.(3) The use of landscape index method in landscape pattern analysis module was conducive to reflect types and number of landscape patches that were different in size, shape and properties, as well as the distribution and combination law in space. This method may also to some extent reflect the specific ecological processes and ecological significance.(4) In the ecological risk analysis module, first clip the study area by the sampling grid, and use a variety of landscape indices to calculate the ecological risks of each sampling grid, next use kriging model to interpolate, finally release the final results of geoprocessing service. This method effectively analyzed ecological risks of mangrove wetland in the browser/server mode(5) The paper builds a common design framework for WebGIS based on ArcGIS Server and Flex, and describes the specific implementation of the general framework system separately from the client, database, and server-side. In addition this framework can be applied to other areas.
