Study On The Adaptability Of "Jinbaofeng No.1" Walnut

Fenyang city, the hometown of walnut, has a long cultural history of Fenzhou walnut which is recorded in the book of Chinese Fruit Tree Monograph of Walnut as famous as Yangbi walnut and Shimen walnut. Walnut production became major income of farmers in Fenyang city with area of five hundred and fifty thousand mu and the yield of twelve thousand ton. But the major varieties including Jinlong No.1, Jinlong No.2, Liping No 2 and Liao Walnut series are easily damaged by early frost and even no harvest in year 2006 and 2013 due to the freeze in Aprill 11,2006 and heavy snow in Aprill 19,2013, respectively.The new walnut variety, Jinbofeng No.1, selected from offspring of Fenzhou walnut seedlings in the location at altitude of 800m with the characters of precocity, frost resistance, productive and thin shell. The grafting experiments and the investigation of nut quality, growth and productive traits were conducted in Nanpiancheng village in Yangjiazhuang town, Fenyang city, a traditional walnut region at altitude of 1000m.
