In modern landscape architecture, people increasingly devote particular care to the construction of plants. The development and utilization of wild plant resources meets the demand of space and diversity for garden plants. The continuously improving landscape construction leads to the improvement of people’s aesthetic consciousness at the same time. The acceleration of urbanization evokes peoples’eager for returning to nature. The abundant resource of wild plants offers infinite vitality for urban greening and beautification.Zingiberaceae is the research object in the article. On the basis of literature research, master the history origin, resources distribution, variety, morphological characteristics and resource value of Zingiberaceae. There are about 52 genera and more than 1500 species of Zingiberaceae around the world, which are distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions. In order to comprehensively evaluate the application status and development prospect of Zingiberaceae, field survey were carried out in 45 urban green land and 2 flowers and plants markets in Fuzhou City respectively from the aspects of plant species, morphological characteristics, ornamental characteristics and ecological characteristics. From the following four respects:ornamental value, ornamental characteristics, ecological value and resource value, This paper aims to summary the application form and development prospect of Zingiberaceae in landscape architecture, pointing out the deficiency in the application and putting forward corresponding countermeasure and suggestion. The results show that:(1)According to literature, the historical origin of Zingiberaceae could be traced to early period when the Zingiberaceae were considered as medicinal materials. Zingiberaceae divided into perennial, terriprata, which with the aromatic, nubby block rhizomes. Zingiberaceae were treated as ornamental plants for their flower, bracts, stem, and leaf, and most of them were with medicinal value, which were valuable medicinal materials.(2)Through investigation for four green spaces in Fuzhou city (park green space, residential green space, public facilities green space and other green space), It was found that there were 8genus,38 species and 1 varieties of the ginger family. The survey results show that most of the Zingiberaceae applications in Fuzhou are for open green field cultivation, rarely used in indoor pot planting ornamental. You can see the ginger, Alpinia katsumadai, Alpinia zerumbet’springle’and Alpinia zerumbet in residential courtyard. The most used plants in the garden landscape are Alpinia zerumbet’variegata’and Hedychium chrysoleucum, Cucuma, which are with both ornamental value and medicinal value, more for medicinal cultivation, less for ornamental cultivation. Zingiberaceae is rarely used for ornamental cultivation, while you can see some of them in the ginger class garden, for example, in Fuzhou National Forest Park, Zingiberales special botanical gardens, South China Botanical Garden’s ginger garden and Tropical Botanical Garden wild ginger garden in Xishuangbanna.(3) On the basis of literature and books, the paper summarizes the ornamental characteristics of ornamental plants for 19 genera of ginger respectively from the respect of plants’ type, color, leaf, flower and fruit feature.(4) The article uses analytic hierarchy process to build a comprehensive evaluation system for ginger plants. The system comprehensively assesses the application of ginger plants in the garden from the following four criterion layers:ornamental value, ornamental expectation, ecological value and resource value. It turns out that the weight value of ornamental value is the biggest one, which is 0.5110. In the whole ranking of weight value, the top six are flower color, fruition situation, duration of florescence, growth potential, leaf shape and flower type, which play a significant role in the development and utilization of ginger family resources.(5) The article made a comprehensive evaluation for 39 kinds Zingiberaceae concerning landscape application, ranking them according to the assessment. The result shows that:The Comprehensive evaluation of level one:2 species, with great value of development and utilization for massive landscape application. While there are 9 kinds on level two, whose value is not so much as it on level one, suggest use it moderately. And there are 24 species on level three. Most of them are medicinal plants, suit for small-scale applications in landscaping.(6) The paper studies the forms of application for ginger plants and puts forward scientific and feasible suggestions.
