During 1998~-2000, 106 specimens were collected in Nanning, Guangxi Based on morphological character and physiological property, one hundred seventy two strains among 182 Pythium strains which isolated and purified from the specimens were identified Six species, namely Pythzum kunmzngense Yu~ P ultzmum Trow~ P tardicrescens Vanterpool~ P acanthophoron Sideris~. P irregulare Buisman and P mzddletoniz Sparrow were new records in this region The other species included P sp I ~. P sp II -~ P aphanzdermatum (Edson) Fitzpatrick~ P spznosum Sawada and P delzense Meurs P aphanidermatum and P spznosum, whose frequencies in the isolates were 28 49 % and 26 16 % respectively, were the dominant population in Nanning Frequencies of Pythium species in the specimens was 171 70 % Physiological properties, including temperature response of the mycelia-. soluble proteins and esterase isozyme polyacrylamide slab gel electrophoresis, were studied There were quite diverse among isolates from different species while were identical in conspecific isolates The hierachical clustering analyse of the electrophoresis results showed that the kindred relationship of the genus of Pythium with oogonia ornamented were close It revealed that the electrophoresis of soluble proteins and esterase isozyme analysis might be useful for studying phylogeny of Pythium...
