Phyllostachys heterocycla (P.heterocycla) belong to phyllostachys of Gramineae is a threatened plants, and is an important ornamental plants in China. People pay more and more attention to P. heterocycla because it has high ornamental values and economic values. In this study, compared with ordinary bamboo (controls), we detected and analyzed the indexes of morphological character and physiological characteristic of P. heterocycla, reveal its morphological characters and physiological characteristics, and provided theory evidence and guidance for introduction and cultivation of P. heterocycla. The main results are as following:(1) Compared with ordinary bamboo, the length and width of Phyllostachys heterocycla leaves were0.97centimeters (cm) and5.78cm, and shortened0.1cm and0.82cm, the result illustrated that size of P. heterocycla leaves was smaller than control. The fresh weight ration of branch leaves and stem of P. heterocycla was0.51, and is1.7times compared with the ration of ordinary bamboo, the result indicated that the phenotype of P. heterocycla plants was short and small. The individual moire pattern was observed on stems of P. heterocycla compared with control. The P. heterocycla has high ornamental values due to the restriction of wild resource and individual moire pattern.(2) The time of bamboo shoots of P. heterocycla was from end of March to late May and duration time was about50days, the result was similar with period of ordinary bamboo shoots. Furthermore, the quantities of bamboo shoots of P. heterocycla were increased with times of bamboo shoots, but the growth of everyday P. heterocycla were smaller than ordinary bamboo after7days of bamboo shoots.(3) The photosynthetic variation of everyday of P. heterocycla were presented doublet curve form, and reached the maximum peak and secondary peak at about9a m and at about3p m, the result was similar with ordinary bamboo. But the maximum net photosynthesis rate and net photosynthetic rate everyday of P. heterocycla were all smaller than ordinary bamboo.(4) The contents of chlorophyll and free amino acid and activity levels of nitrate reductase in the leaves of P. heterocycla were reached a maximum, moreover, the contents and activity levels were presented singlet curve changing with seasons.(5) P. heterocycla was a high ornamental value of landscape plant, its application in design of special garden, bamboo landscaping or combination with other garden factor and bamboo potted landscape and pot culture, and endeared to everyone, the landscape application was very popular, and possessed high promotional value.
