Upland rice is a water-saving and high yield crop that has strong drought resistance and adaptive faculty. Planting upland rice has broad prospects. This study detected genetic diversities among upland rice genotypes and between upland rice and rice genotype from molecular level by means of RAPD marker combing field experiment. A total of 22 primers was employed for PCR amplification of 26 upland rice and rice cultivars, from which 102 polymorphic loci were scored, about 78.63% of total loci. There are abundant genetic resources of upland rice, which show high potentialities of yield improvement and utilities. Genetic distance among upland rice cultivars and between upland rice and rice cultivars ranges from 0.1216 to 0.3005. The shorter genetic distance between upland rice and rice may be because hybridization of upland rice and rice or upland rice originally derived from rice in order to adapt to dry environment. According to RAPD genetic distance matrix, cluster analysis was carried out by UIPGMA method. The result showed that 26 upland rice and rice genotypes are divided into 6 groups and 7 single cultivars, which is roughly concordant with field experimental result and the actual situation. It is feasible for RAPD to use for studying genetic diversities of upland rice. The research result can act as theoretical basis for parental selection and molecular maker- assisted selection in breeding procedures.
