We can get much, present and accurate information by usingRS and GIS. Landscape ecology provides an efficient method in monitoringthe present situation and Temporal and spatial Patterns of desertificationLand. Based on the source of remoting sense images in 1995 and 2000, byusing the function of dealing with images and data of GIS to produce thepatches of landscape types, the paper offers the patches characteristics:quantities, perimeters, areas etc. And then, the present situation andTempora1 and spatial Patterns of desertification is given by calculating andanalysing landscape indexes. The result shows that desertification is seriousin the study area. Various types of desertification land add up to 370000hm~2,accounting for 39% of the total land. From l995 to 2000,the seriousdesertification land, where vegetation cover is below 30%, extends with thespeed of 61hm~2 per year. The increasing landscape fragment reflects theintense intervene that human activities act on landscape. Shape indexchanges indicate the growing ratio of interior -edge, which isdisadvantageous to natural recover of land. All in all, the desertification ofthe study area is developing With growing areas and level. The occurrenceand development of desertification is made by human irrational utilizationunder the frail ecology enviroment. The paper analyses the causes ofdesertification land and the problems in land use, provides theoretical basisfor regional enviroment treatment and economic development plan.
