Nineteen elite. maize inbred lines popularized in China were selected for experimental materials, four of which were released recently. The 24 quantitative traits and 16 qualitative traits of 15 lines were surveyed, genetic correlated coefficients were calculated through variance and covariance analysis, then quantitative traits and combining quantitative with quality traits were extracted to prime components by Factor analysis .At the same time ,the nineteen inbred lines?DNA fingerprinting were mapped by AFLP markers. The nineteen lines were classified into several heterotic groups based on genetic distances come from three data quantitative traits , combining with quantity and quality ,AFLPs respectively. How to selected traits in order to classified inbred lines correctly were discussed, the rationality of cluster analysis was also discussed on the basis of inbred lines? pedigree and the hybrids popularized widely .Following results were obtained: 1.The 15 inbred lines were classified five groups based on dust er analysis of 24 quantitative data: Cluster I including 178, Ye52106, zhong 31, 7884?, zhongziOl, zhong45l ;Cluster II including Mo17, Huangyes i; Cluster LII including dan34O,Cluster LV including Ye 478,HuangC,C8 605?:Cluster V including huotanghuang,Huangzhaosi,P138. The heter otic groups agreed partly with known pedigree information. 2.The 15 inbred lines were classified six groups based on cluste r analysis of quality and quantitative data: Cluster I including Huan gzhaosi and Huangyesi;Cluster Ilineluding Mo17 and Huotanghuang;Clus ter LII including Pl38,ZhonziOl,178,Ye62106; Cluster LV including zho ng3l, 7884?, zhong45l ;ClusterVincluding ye478 , C8605?, huangC;Cluste r V.1 including dan34O. huotanghuang, Huangzhaosi, P138. The heterotie gr cups has good consistent with pedigree. 3.The nineteen inbred lines could be identified completely by one AFLP primer . The 15 inbred lines were divided into six heterotic groups 55 according to AFLPs, The results show part consistent with pedigree. 48?, ES?1, A318, R08 have more difference with other 15 inbred lines based on AFLPs analysis. 4.Most of the hybrids?parents were divided into different heterotic groups based on cluster analysis of three data 5. The three distances between parents of popularized widely hybrids were greater than the total average distance of all testing inbred lines...
