In this paper, two phases of Landsat TM data of 1988 and l998 being used, thetechnology method of remote sensing (RS) and geography information system (GIS)being adapted, the sand hill region between Zhenzhou city and Kaifeng city as anaxample has been investigated by dynamic monitoring and analytical research of landuse/cover change (LUCC). By introducing two indexes of land use dynamic degree andland use, the tendency of land use/cover change in this region for ten years wasanalysized and the driving force factors that influence LUCC were studied. On this basis, solutions to the existing problems of the land use in this region were put forward. In chapter one, some basic problems to the theory of land use/cover change wereintroduced. First, the implications and mutual relationship to land use and land coverchange are defined. On this basis, the research range, radical content and focal problemsof LUCC were explained as well as the position and function in the global change. In chapter two, the applications of RS and GIS in research were analyzed, Whichmainly include the fashion and technology assess of the combination of RS and GIS andthe applications in the RS investigation of GIS.In chapter three and four, by the introduction of Landsat TM data as basicinformation resource, the information extracting process system and translating marks ofLUCC were applied on the sand hill region between Zhenzhou and Kaifeng. The wholeprocess is: the collecting and analyzing of the data; the pre-process of TM image(precise rectifying geometrically); establishment of the classification system and themark of judging; the visual judging on TM image; the synthesis process of RS mapdrafting; noting, embellishing, map drafting of land use/cover; area measuring andprecision analyzing. Due to a higher degree precision of visual judging and calculatingon maps, this work can be matched. In chapter five, two indexes of land use degree and land use dynamic degree wereprimarily applied to analyze the quantity change and utilizaion degree change on theland use/cover. A conclusion was drawn: the change of land use/cover in this regionvaried sharply, i.e. the area of cultivated land, forest land, water body decreased sharply, and the area of habitat, land for communication increased sharply. So the land usedegree increased at a rate of 0.l% annually -- a higher development degree by now. Then the mainly four driving force factors on land change were discussed: urbaniZaion;marketing, compedng economic profit; population development; and the determiningbehavior of govemment. Finally, the according direction and reconunendations ofsuStainable use on land in this region were put forward to define the developingorientaion.
