Cholic acid (CA) is one of the effective components of many kinds of animals?bile. Its molecular formula is C24H4005 and the molecular weight of its anhydrous crystallization is 408.6, mp 198 C,[a]D~ +27 0PK~4 CA has the functions of anti- pyretion ~antinflammation~ antialergy~, antibacteria and antivirus and is often used to apoplexy larygopharyngitis and stomatoglossitos Modem pharmacological methods were used in the pharmacological experiments of the antinflammation~ antitusis.. expectoration and antiasthma effects of CA , the content POE2 inflammatory medium and the content of second messenger-cAMP in tissue cell were tested and the mechanism of these actions were discussed .The experiments of treating the inflammation of lung tissue and of protecting its from inflammation were also done. The results of an-inflammatory experiments indicated that when the dosages were 0.25g/kg and 0. 125g/kg and given by oral administration , CA could obviously restrain the inflammation of big mice and little mice and the content of PGE2 which were induced by the methods of Auricular concha swelling ~. Filtering out pigment ~ Cotton ball granular swelling and feet swelling. The results of antitusis~ expctoration and antiasthma showed that with the same dosages and the same way of anti-inflammatory experiments, CA could significantly control the cough of mice caused by NH3 . H20 and SO2 and increase the intratracheal secretion measured by tracheal phenol red test. 2.5% 0.4ml CA was added into Mai Bath-nest and CA could significantly diastole the spasm of guinea-pigs tracheal smooth muscle caused by His and 5-HI with the methods of the Tracheal volume and Tracheal spiral. The level of cAMP was improved when CA was given by oral administration at the dosages of 0.25g/kg and 0.125g/kg. The results of the experiments of the treatment of the inflammation of lung tissue and the protection lung tissue from inflammation showed that when the dosages were 0.25g/kg and 0. 125g/kg and given by oral administration, CA had the functions of treating the inflammation of bronchus and lung tissue and protection them from inflammation.
