Behavior, growth and development, wool fibre quality, reproductive performance, physiological and biochemical index, hybridization effect and transferrin polymorphysim of Poll Dorset sheep introduced from New Zealand were studied in Gansu Yongchang Meat Sheep Breeding Farm to research adaptability and crossbred performance of Poll Dorset sheep in northwest of Gansu Province. The results showed that: (1) Heart rate of Poll Dorset sheep is 88. 15 ±6.26 times /min, breath rate is 3 1.24 ±7.97 times /min, and the temperature is 39. 10 ±0.27^0; (2) Behavior round the clock of Poll Dorset sheep is affected by age and management way. Foraging time every day gradually decreases along with increase of age. The maximum foraging time at 3 month-age is 429.0 min /d and foraging time of adult sheep is only 188.7 min /d. Ruminating time increases along with increase of age. Lying time of adult sheep was long and its sleeping time was shortest ; (3) Body measurements and body wight of Poll Dorset sheep at each age are signifcanuy larger than those of indegenous sheep. Body wight of adult stud ram is 125.6 ±11.8 kg, and that of stud ewe is 82.46 ±7.24kg; (4) Woolcut of adult ram is 2.96 ±0.72 kg, and mat of ewe is 2.24±0.81 kg. (5) Duriation of estras of Poll Dorset sheep is about 28h, and that of indegenous sheep is 24-26h. Average pregnancy length of Poll Dorset sheep is 146.72 ± 1.89d,and that of indegenous sheep is 150. 19d (range 145-154d) .(6) Average lambing percentage of Poll Dorset sheep and mat of indegenous sheep is 157.14% and 100.71%, respectively. Reproductive and survival percent of Poll Dorset sheep is 121.2%. Birth weight of male lamb of Poll Dorset sheep and that of indigenous sheep is 5. 13 ± 1.28kg and 3.58 ± 0.54 kg, respectively. Birth weight of female lamb of Poll Dorset sheep and that of indigenous sheep is 4.99± 1.03kg and 3.59±0.80 kg, respectively. (7) Appearance of first filial generation (Fi ) of Poll Dorset sheep and indigenous sheep is more similar to that of Poll Dorset sheep. Birth weight of male lamb F, and that of female lamb F, is 5. 08±0. 94kg and 5. 55 ±0. 70kg, respectively. Body weight at one-year-age of male lamb F, and mat of female lamb F, is 46. 92 ±4. 59kg and 43. 45 ±4. 93kg, respectively. Body weight at every age of F j is extremely significantly larger man that of indigenous sheep(P < 0.0 1). (8) Body weight of FI can be predicted by regression equation: Body weight (kg)=0.126 x body length (cm) ± 0.290 x height at withers (cm) + 0.473 x heart girth (cm) - 26.539( r=0.8792). (9)Average GOT concentration of introduced Poll Dorset stud ram at 2.5 year-age and that at 3.5 year-age is 39.56 U/L and 37.93 U/L, respectively. Average GPT concentrations at 2.5 year-age and that at 3.5 year-age (11.38 U/L and 11.80 U/L, respectively) decrease compared to mat at 1.5 year-age (102.08 U/L and 28.25 U/L, respectively). Determining of blood sample gained in the same conditions showed that concentrations of GOT and GPT of Poll Dorset stud ewe and those of even-aged indigenous ewe are similar. Compared to concentrations determined at the newly introduced period of stud ram ( LDH 1074.08 , AKP 346.86U/L, TP 91.55 G/L, Ca 89.20 Mg/L), its concentrations of LDH, AKP and TP decrease extremely significantly and that of Ca increase two years later. Concentration of TP and that of Ca is similar, LDH concentration is lower and AKP concentration is higher than those of even-aged indigenous stud ewe. (10) Results from electrophoresis analysis showed that plenty of polymorphism exist at loci of Tf in each three populations of Poll Dorset sheep, FI and indigenous sheep. The loci is all controlled by four alleles of TfA, TfB, Tfc and TfD. Five phenotypes of TfAC, TfAD, TfBC, TfBD and TfCC are detected at transform genomic locus in the population of Poll Dorset sheep, and TfCC and TfC is dominant genotype and dominant gene, respectively. Eight phenotypes of TfAA, TfAB, TfAC, TfAD, TfBC, TfBD, TfCC and TfCD are detected in the population of indegenous sheep, and TfAC and TfA is dominant...
