There are nearly 80million hectares of degraded grasslands in northern semiarid regions of china because of overgrazing, cultivation wooded herb collection for fuel The grassland degraded must contributed considerable bad effects existence of herdsmen and development of animal husbandry Improvement in arid and semiarid grassland of Inner Mongolia was carried out by the grassland improvement group during 1972~2000. The main principle for grassland improvement in arid and semiarid region is making every efforts to conserve precipitation and simultaneously make it stored in the soil. The first experiment is that shallow tillage may be used on grassland which is dominated by rhizome grasses; The second experiment is that loosen soil in steppe which is dominated by tussock grasses; The third is reseeding that reseeding in abandoned field with loess earth of which the vegetation cover must be less than 10%. The species which used by reseeding was different in different type steppe. The machines which used for reseeding called 9SSB-1.75 type seeder and 9SF-2.95 type seeder. The productivity of improved pasture increase by 40% to 100% or more, especially by reseeding, may be increased by 2 to 7 times compared with the natural grassland whether you get success in grassland skills integrated with climate, soil and vegetation type, especially the time and a amount of rainfall in a year.
