Postharvest consenescence mechanisms in petal of Rosa rugosa , Rosa multiflora and Rosa 'Samantha' have been systematically studied by physiological and biochemical tests in order to find out inherent mechanisms of Rosa rugosa and to provide theoretics basis of Rose flower postharvest storage .Fourteen traits have been tested including the followings: storage-life-span, water content , water potential, soluble sugar , protein, SOD, CAT, POD, membrane relative permeability, MDA , O2.-, anthocyanidin , PH value and ethylene. The correlation of flower bud postharvast storage-life span with water content and water potential are significant.water stress can deteriorate the flower buds to consenescence. Flower storage-life span of Rosa multiflora and Rosa rugosa, which is easily losing water , has shorter life span than that of Rosa 'Samantha', which is hard to loss water. The results of correlation analysis of inherent substances with flower bud life span indiCATe that soluble sugar content was decreased gradually in the consenescence process, part of them was used as the energy resource to keep life activity, and part of them was transformed into protein。The protein content was increased at first and decreased later because the protein including certain consenescence enzymes were synthesized in the initial stage of the consenescence process.Correlation analysis of enzyme system related with flowe bud storage-life span indiCATes: SOD and CAT activity increase earlier and decrease later, and they are strongly related ,which indiCATes they have a synergy. POD activity increase in consenescence later stage, and the absolute value of correlation coefficient is greater than that of SOD and CAT,it seem that POD plays more important rule than SOD and CAT in the consenescence process.Correlative analysis of membrane system with storage -life spanindiCATes that they are significantly relation. The disorder of O2- elimination result in large account of super oxygen ion accumulating, and increasing membrane superoxide activity, and make MDA excessively accumulate, which make membrane relative permeability increase. Correlative analysis indiCATes: in Rosa rugosa and Rosa'Samantha' storage-life span a great deal of O2- lead to produce account of MDA to be accumulated, which destroy the membrane stability. But for, Rosa Multiflora correlation between MDA and membrane is not strong, which indiCATe that other approach which may damages membrane stability. The correlation analysis show that there are not strong correlation ships of anthocyanidin and PH value with flower bud storage-life span.Analysis result show that ethylene content are strongly correlated with storage-life span of the varieties of Rosa rugosa 'tang zi'and Rosa 'Samantha',but not strongly correlated with that of Rosa multiflora this show that variety 'tang zi'and 'samansha'belong to ethylene-sensitive type and Rosa multiflora belongs to ethylene-nonsensitive type.Postharvest consenescence of storage-life is a complex process ,and it is a result of multiple physiological and biochemical actions. The main component analysis reveal that major factors which affect storage-life span. The first main components which effect postharvest consenescence of Rosa rugosa 'Tang Zi' include relative water content, POD activity, MDA content and O2-. The second main components are SOD activity and protein content. The first main components which affect postharvest consenescence of Rosa. Multiflora include relative water content, POD activity, membrane relative permeability and O2-. The second main component are SOD and CAT activity. The first main components which affect postharvest consenescence of Rosa 'Samantha' include relative water content,O2-and ethylene content. The second main components are SOD activity and protein content. Finally, Studies of the inherent characteristics ofconsenescence for Rosa rugosa , Rosa multiflora and Rosa 'Samantha'reveal that primary mechanisms of consenescence.the major chemical steps are as the followin...
