Studies On The Vigor Of Four Kind Medical Plant Seeds Under Different Storage Conditions

Many medical plant seeds lives are very short. These seeds do not endure storage. The seed viability and vigor quickly decline as the length of storage period increased. To extend the storage life of medical plant seeds, improve and keep the seed vigor, the seed viability, physiology characteristics and storage materials were researched. With Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz., Scutellaria baicalensia Georgi., Polygala tenuifolia Willd., and Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bge. seeds as experiment materials, the seed germination percentage and vigor index, physiological and biochemistry characteristics, storage materials and the variation regulation of physiological and biochemistry characteristics of fore kind medical plant seeds stored in different temperature and seed moisture content were initially researched. The results followed:(1) In the aspects of seed viability, from total ascend to say, the germination percentage of fore kind medical plant seeds stored in different conditions decreased as the length of storage period increased. To A. macrocephala., S. baicalensia, and P. tenuifolia seeds, the storage temperature and seed moisture content were more low, the decline rate of germination percentage was more slow. After one year, the germination percentage and vigor index of three kind medical plant seeds stored in the condition of-10 and 3% moisture content and A. asphodeloides seed with 3% moisture content stored in 36癈 were the most high than others. But, the germination percentage of four kind seeds with 15% moisture content stored in 36癈 decreased 0 after two months (A. asphodeloides seed was 4 months).(2) With the relarive leakage of electrolytes, protective enzyme activity and MDA content as indexes, the physiology and biochemistry characreristic of four kind medical plant seeds under different temperature and moisture content were studied. The results showed, to A. Macrocephala seed, S baicalensia seed, and P tenuifolia seed, the storage temperature and seed moisture content were more low, the variation speed of seed physiology and biochemistry was more slow with the storage period extension; the storage temperature and seed moisture content were more high, the variation speed of seed physiology and biochemistry was more quick. After one year, the physiology and biochemistry variation of three kind seeds with 3% and 5% moisture content stored in -10 was the least, and the seed vigor was the most high; the physiology and biochemistryvariation of three kind seeds with 3% moisture content stored in 36癈 was the biggest, and the seed vigor was the most lowest. A. asphodeloides seed was different from other three kind seeds. At the condition of 36 , 3% and 5% moisture content, the A. asphodeloides seed vigor was the most high.(3) In the aspect of storage materials, studying the soluble sugar, starch and protein content in fore kind medical plant seeds, it was found that the storage temperature and seed moisture content were more high, the starch and protein content of A. macrocephala, S. baicalensia, A. macrocephala seeds were more few, and the soluble sugar content was more. A. Asphodeloides seed was special. With the storage temperature increasing and seed moisture content declining, the starch and protein content in seed increased. The resolve speed of starch and protein content of four kind medical plant seeds with 15% moisture content stored in 36 癈 was the most speed.(4)Through the correlative analysis of the germination percentage and other indexes, it was found that the germination percentage of four kind medical plant seeds was significantly positive correlation with vigor index. To A. macrocephala, S. baicalensia, A. Macrocephala Seeds, the germination percentage was positive correlation with the activity of SOD and POD and was negative correlation with electrical conductivity and MDA content.
