Different level of male sterility were induced by using different kinds of chemical hybridization agent (CHA) on two wheat cultivars , Yumai41 and 54. In the course of pollen abortion, the changes of endogenous hormones and material metabolic system were assayed, thus the physiological mechanism of male sterility induced by CHA was studied.The experiment includes two parts. In part I, different male sterility were induced by using two kinds of CHA, Genesis and Sc2053, en two kinds of genotypes. In the course of pollen abortion, the changes of endogenous hormones, IAA, GAs, ABA, ZR in flag leaves,spikes, anthers and their relation to male sterility were assayed. The changes of peroxidase activity were also studied. The results indicated: (1) The IAA content was lower than CK since the quardrant stage in the nutrient organ and reproductive organ, while the change extent in the anthers was closely related to the dosage of CHA; (2) The GAs content was higher than CK except the mononucleate stage in the leaves and spikes, while the GAs content varied with different genotypes in the anthers; (3) The ABA content varied with different genotypes in the leaves, but it was higher than CK during the pollen mother cell and the quardrant stage. The ABA content was higher than CK in the spikes and anthers, and the change extent was closely related with the sterile rate; (4) The ZR content varied with different genotypes in the leaves, while in the spikes and anthers, it was higher than CK from mononucleate to trinucleate stage; (5) The ratio of IAA/ABA, lAA/GAs, IAA/ZR and GAs/ABA were remarkably lower than CK, and the decreasing extent was correlated with the rise of CHA dosages, which showed that the endogenous hormonal equilibtium was broken; (6) The IAA deficiency might be correlated with the rise of POD activity.In part II, different level of male sterility were induced by two kinds of CHA, Genesis and BAU-9403. The changes of proline, soluble sugar, starch, soluble protein were assayed in the course of pollen abortion in the flag leaves and spikes. The results indicated: (1) The proline content was higher than CK in the leaves and spikes after being treated by BAU-9403, while it varied with genotypes after being treated by Genesis; (2) the soluble sugar, starch, soluble protein content were higher than CK in the leaves, while they were lower thanCK in the spikes, which showed that the occurrence of pollen abortion might be correlated with the deficiency of material metabolism in the reproductive organ. The relationship between the pollen abortion and the changes of endogenous hormones and material metabolism was discussed in thic paper.
