The Australian and Chinese strains of Anicetus beneficus Ishii et Yasumatsu were compared with in morphology, biology and physiological biochemistry. The Australian strain was emerged from Ceroplastes rubens on umbrella tree and Chinese strains was emerged from Ceroplastes rubens on Citrus reticulata. Morphological study inferred, two strains are identical in twenty-four important morphological characteristics on body color, antenna structure, setae on fore wing, etc. But there is a bit difference on setae of scutellum and body 1enth between the Australian strain and Chinese strain. In comparison with the original description of Ishii et Yasumatsu, 1954, the Australian strain completely identical with the original description, the Chinese strain basically identical with the original description. The pink wax scale Ceroplastes rubens on Citrus reticulata, Ilex cornuta, Cinnamomum camphora, Cedrus deodora, Buxus sp. were provided to two strains for host selection tests, the results showed there is not special host hobby with the Australian strain and the Chinese strain. In new emerged adults, the Australian strain was apparently more active than the Chinese strain, it is longer distance in one jumping or flying.Biology of Australian and Chinese strains of Anicetus beneficus Ishii et Yasumatsu including emerging dynamic, parasitoid rates, sex ratio et al was investigated during 2000-2003. The parasitoid rates of Chinese strain is about 2%, the sex ratio of which is about 3.5. The parasitoid rates of Australian strain is about 9.1%, the sex ratio of which is about 2.25. The generations and development time of Anicetus beneficus in Hangzhou were also studies. The emerging time of first generation on Ilex cornuta is during 1 April to 29 May .the emerging period is 59 days. The emerging time of second generation on Ilex cornuta is during 18 September to 13 October, the emerging period is 26 days. The development time of first generation of Anicetus beneficus is estimated for about 170 days. The development time of second generation of Anicetus beneficus is estimated for about 190 days. The development of egg, larva and pupae need further study. The effects of temperature on emergence of Anicetus beneficus were studied. The results showed that the most suitable temperature for emergence of Anicetus beneficus is 24 . The development time decreased with temperature increasing during suitable temperature range. The studies showed the Australian and Chinese strains of Anicetus beneficus had no reproductive barrier. The results of esterase isozyme PAGE inferred that the Rf value of protein band of the Chinese strain is lower than that of the Australian strain, this implied there are different molecular weights of esterase isozyme protein in the Australian strain and Chinese strain. More experiments need to do in developing rate, emerging time, reproduction, bad environment resistant. The studies indicate that Australian and Chinese strains of Anicetus beneficus are the same species. But there are a bit differences on morphology, behavior and biology and esterase isozyme of two strains.
