Ganoderma Lucidum is an important traditional Chinese medicine.Its clsssification and identification has been based on morphology. But environmental factors,such as light,source of nutrients, have effect on morphological characteristics of Ganoderma, which results in a disorder of the nomenclature.For example, the same species have different names ,and vice versa. In order to find out the strains' genetic diversity and provide a basis for systematic taxonomy and breeding, 38 strains of Ganoderma were analyzed with esterase isozyme and AFLP techniques. The results are as following:There were firmly high polymorphisms among 38 Ganoderma strains revealed by the results of esterase isozyme zymogram analysed with DPS V3.01 software. Strains 4 and 6, 37and 38, showed the same zymotype while each of the other strains had different zymotypes. Strain 13 was the most far away from the others. All of the 38 strains were in one group at the dissimilarity coefficient 0.85. Based on the representative strains from Chinese Academy of Science,China Agricultural University and Huazhong Agricultural University, all the strains were divided into 11 groups. Group I , named group Ganoderma nigrolucidum ,contained strains 15 and 28; Strains 3, 4, 6, 8, 5, 14, 21, 22, 23 were fall into group II named group sweet Ganoderma; Group III inclued strains 7, 9, 18, 19, 20, 25,which was named group Jinda Ganoderma; Strains 36,37,38 were fall into group IV named group Ganoderma; Group V contained strains 26, 27, 29, 30,which was named group Sichuan wild Ganoderma; Strains 2, 12, 16, 31, 17 were fall into group VI named group Ganoderma sinense; Group VII contained strains 24, 32,which was named group Ganoderma gibbosum; Strains 10, 11 were fall into group VIII named group Ganoderma lucidum; Group IX inclued strains 34, 35,which was named group Ganoderma atrum; Group X, named group Ganodermaapplanatum ,contained strain 3; Group XI contained strain 13 ,which was named group Xiezhi.The 38 strains had 177 distinct polymorphic straps using 14 primer pairs E3/M3, and were divided into 8 groups at the dissimilarity coefficient 0.50 in the UPGMAtree. Strains 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30,36,37,38 were fall into group I; Group II contained strain 32; Group III indued strain 13; Strains 2, 15, 16, 17, 31, 34 were fall into group IV; Group V contained sfrain 33 ; Strain 10 were fall into group VI; Group VII contained strain 24; Strain 35 were fall into group VIII. Its clustering result was similar to the conventional morphic taxonomic system on the whole. It had not been found for AFLP studying on strains Ganoderma after referring to the concerned literatures from the home and abroad.
