The contents of Si in plant of thirty rice varieties (combinations) were determined. Results indicated that Si contents in plant of different rice varieties (combinations) are significantly different. At early season, the Si contents in plant was ranked as heading stage >ripening stage initiation stage; and ripening stage initiation stage >heading for late season. Plant Si accumulation was small during former period, and accumulation after initiation was more than 3/4.Si accumulation showed significant association with yield, biomass production and N, P, K accumulation. The proportion of Si distributed in leaf was approximately equal to that in stem at initiation stage. At heading stage, almost half of Si was distributed in stem. At ripening stage, Si was mainly distributed in panicle.Effects of Si fertilization on rice were studied. Si fertilization promoted net photosynthetic rate, reduced the contents of MDA, membrane permeability, and increased the contents of soluble protein, chlorophyll in flag leaf, delayed flag leaf senescence. Si also increased the activities of Q-enzyme and protein contents in grains and the rate of grain filling, enhanced starch synthesis and accumulation in grain, but grain yield were not significant increased.
