The paper explains the process of an integrated expert system application in micro-irrigation using gathered rainfall in hilly mountain areas. The expert system is developed by the latest computer language, and uscs Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0,AutoCAD 2000,Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access software It sufficiently uses the features of these software, such as visual programme, CAD drawing and database management and so on. And it can automatically finish the design and project of the micro-irrigation engineering according to the detail requirements. Its function include arrangement of pipeline, hydraulic calculation of pipe networks, choice of pump, drawing of engineering layout and automatically obtaining tables of device and budget. Through calculating annual expenses and analyzing investment risk, an optimization model firstly put forward. The coefficient of investment profit of the irrigation system, which includes pipe distribution networks, drop irrigation device, is minimized. The coefficient is optimization design's target function which is by the Genetic Algorithms to solve. The paper analyzes the development environment, system framework and characteristics, in brief. Finally, the expert system is used in Ming Wang Ta village, Lin County, Shanxi province to design and project for apple's drop irrigation at the demonstration farm. By the aid of the system, the calculation result, the design result , the drawing of pipe framework, the budget sheet are conveniently gained, and efficiency is distinctly enhanced. The result of this design has been successfully carried out in the test areas. The system has the value to practice in hilly mountain areas irrigation.
