The insecticidal and antifungal activity of Ligusticum sinense Oliv. wasfound and reported by the center of Biorational pesticide R&D of NWSUAF for thefirst time, the acetone extract from Ligusticum sinense Oliv. Showed strongcontact and fumigation activity against Mythimna separata Walker.and Plutellaxylostella Linnaeus etal. and two insecticidal ingredients was isolated fromthe petroleum ether abstracts.and identified as sarisan and butylidenephthaliderespectively. Among them sarisan was the main active ingredient and theinsecticidal activity of sarisan was tested thoroughly the former study showedthat the chloroform extracts of acetone extract from Ligusticum sinense Oliv.had strong insecticidal activity besides the petroleum ether abstracts. So theactive ingredient of chloroform extracts have been tested in this paper basedon the former works. Primary results were as follows: 1. Guided by bioassay of insecticide with 4th Mythimna separata Walker. fourchemical constituents were isolated from the chloroform extracts. They wereidentified as sarisan. bergapten .ferulic acid .and isovanillin by spectral data.among them ,isovanillin was isolated from Ligusticum sinense oliv for thefirst time. 2. The insecticidal activity of bergapten was tested. Results showed thatit had 70% antifeedant rate to Mythimna separata W with the dosage of 0.005 g/mLand 90% antifeedant rate to Pieris rapae.L. with the dosage of 0.01 g/mL.Bergapten was one of the main insecticidal ingredients. The AFC50 and LC50 ofbergapten against M.separata and Plutella xylostella Linnaeus were 1.2515g/Land 5.338g/L respectively. 3. Herbicidal activities of ferulic acid and sarisan were tested. Resultsindicated that sarisan showed obvious inhibiting effect on the young roots andbuds of 4 kinds of seeds .ferulic acid had less inhibition rate than theantifungal activity in vitro of ferulic acid was tested .it showed no obviousinhibiting effect on some phytopathology fungi including Rhixoctonia cerealisVander Hoeven et al. 4. The acetone extract from Ligusticum sinense Oliv. sarisan and bergaptenShowed strong antifeedant stomach poison and fumigation activity against manyagriculture insect pests. Ligusticum sinense Oliv. is usual herb medicine withadequate resourses and no toxicity .it possess many insecticidal ingredients .sothe insecticidal activity and application of Ligusticum sinense Oliv. Shouldbe studied deeply.
