Developing the forage grass industry possesses giant economic effect, social benefit and ecological benefit. But in his commoditization production process, we firstly come across that the materials are loose, and volume density is small, and it is difficult to collect and transport. So we have carried on the design of the hay baler. The research and progress of hay compressing theory has firstly been discussed in this paper, and especially the hay compression process and the change and calculation of compressing force. It provides theory support for the design of the hay baler.According to our country's real needs and having thought over the existed hay compressing theory, the hay baler is designed and improved by using the modern design method on the basis of existed machines and tools. In addition, this paper has carried on the beneficial analysis of the hay baler on the basis of the designed baler, too.For shortening the designing cycle, raising the designing quality, this paper carries on the dynamic simulation of the compressing mechanism using large-scale commercial software MATLAB/Simulink. It provides important data for the design. Leading MATLAB into the mechanical design has raised the quality and speed of design and possesses important theory value. The visual result of Simulink simulation is easy to observe and convenient to designer and greatly raises the design efficiency. In addition, this paper undertakes assembly and motion interference check as well as the finite element analysis of the baler mechanism with Pro/Engineer and ANSYS. This makes the designer have more distinct knowledge to the mechanism running property of developed product prototype before formal production, and raises the successful rate of product development.
