Scenic forest tending is a brand-new research field in China, and the theory and technique system has not been established yet. Based on the investigation in West Mountain forestry farm of Beijing, a method on tree classification of scenic forest is advanced; the influence of forest thinning on tree growth and undergrowth species diversity is discussed. The research result showed: There are plenty of ornamental resources in The West Mountain, but the structure is not reasonably enough.eg. there is more of coniferous forest and less of broad-leaved forest; more of young growth and half-mature stands and less of near mature, mature, over mature stands; more of pure forest and less of mixed forest.Based on the investigation,an aspect spectrum of the main ornamental in The West Mountain are protracted. Trees are classified into four by comprehendsive fuzzy evaluation: Grade I (excellent tree in vision), Grade II(good tree in vision), Grade III(normal tree in vision), Grade IV(inferior tree in vision). The relationship of scenic value and tree growth in Finns tabulaeformis stand is the higher DBH, the better vision effect; the higher growth potential, the better vision effect. The species diversity of the undergrowth can be increased by mowing, cutting shrubs, light thinning etc.And the increasing amplitude of underbrush and undergrass is greater under broad-leaved forest than under coniferous forest. The mixed forest is benefit to enhance the plant species diversity. With the increase of the overwood density, the Simpson Index of underbrush is inclined to reduce, and the amplitude is between 20 40%.
