Weimai 7, developed by Weifang Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Shandong Province and released in 2003 is a disease resistant and stress tolerant new wheat cultivar with high yield potential and good flour quality. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance, including grain yield, flour quality and other characteristics, of Weimai 7, under environmental conditions of different regions and diferent cultural practices so as to find out the best cultural practice for the commercial use of this new cultivar in different regions of Shandong. The results are as follows:1. In the 2001-2002 regional yield trial of Shandong Province, Weimai 7 performed better than 3 current major commercial cultivars of Shandong, producing higher and more stable yield and showing better adaptability. It was more adaptable at Qingdao, Weifang, Bingzhou, Dongying and Heze than at Jinan, Taian, Linyi and Dezhou.2. The effect of different environmental condition and different cultural practices on the quality characters of Weimai 7 is evident. Analysis of the quality of Weimai 7 seed samples from different experimental sites showed that quality of those from Qingdao, Weifang and Yantai reached the level of "strong", whereas the quality of those from other sites was only "medium". The results also showed that the application of N and K had negative effect on the quality of Weimai 7, but that of P fertilizer had negative effect. The appication of Triadimefon had deleterious effect on the quality of Weimai 7, but the effect of carbendazim and Tianda2116 were insignificant. Different sowing dates, seeding rates and times of irrigation were also significantly effective on the quality characters of Weimai 7.3. Studies on the effect of cultual practices on the grain yield and other agronomic traits of Weimai 7 showed that the optimum sowing dates for Weimai 7 are October 2-October 9. The optimum seeding rate is arround 100000 seedlings/Mu; these practices could ensure the best balanced yield components. Weimai 7 is suitable to field with high fertility and sufficient irrigation. Compared with Lumai 21, it is more sensitive to the ecological conditions of different regions.4. The results also showed that many derivation of Weimai 7 were disease resistant, high-yielding and having better quality, indicationg that Weimai 7 could be ued as a key parent in wheat breedingprograms for disease resistance, high yield and better quality.
