At present, with the expanding of greenhouse area, the prevention and control of vegetable diseases and pests becomes more and more important. Production and development of greenhouse has been restricted by the limited abilities of farmer, shortage of agricultural expert and backward of agro technical advice. The diagnosis and consultation expert system for vegetable diseases in greenhouse was established to deal with the problem according to the knowledge and production experience and imitating the inference thought of the experts in this field.Knowledge base, inference engine, database and management system have been designed according to the outer symptoms of vegetables on the basis of expert experience and demand of users. Due to knowledge representation method based on set of rules, forward and backward chaining, depth-first search and the comparison between the diagnosis result deduces by the system and detailed diseases information, the system realized the function of diagnosis, consultation and learning on vegetable diseases. These techniques settled the complexity and uncertainty of data in agriculture. This system is practical, convenient, and scientific.By using oriented-object programming technology, Visual Basic under windows 98 platform, the system contained six plates such as diagnosis and consultation of diseases, diseases information inquiring, knowledge browsing, system management, technology forum and help. It included sixty kinds of diseases materials of five kinds of vegetables, vegetable cultivation knowledge, technology of prevention and control of diseases and pests, technology of greenhouse, pesticide utility etc possessing practical application value and foreground.
