The zebra-leaf trait performance of male sterile rice Wujin 4A was observed, its inheritance was analyzed in segregation generations from some crosses with normal leaf rice varieties. The hybrid combing ability was estimated after reciprocal crosses, incomplete dual parallel crosses, and test crosses. The Results obtained were as fellows:The zebra-leaf appeared green-yellow bands, which looked like the body of a zebra .Green and chlorosis arrayed along leaf vein, the same to the leaf sheath. This trait didn't appear before the fourth-leaf stage .It most obviously expressed in the sixth-leaf stage, and the zebra-leaf color disappeared since the eighth-leaf stage (28 days after transplanted),. The zebra-leaf expressed stably in different sites and different seasons.The normal rice varieties II-32B, Jin23B and Zhenshan97B were pollinated with the Wujin 4B. Reciprocal crosses of Wujin4B and Wujin3B were made. The zebra-leaf was not present in F1, suggesting that this trait was recessive. Significant difference was not observed in F2 of reciprocal crosses, suggesting that the zebra-leaf gene was controlled by nuclear genes.Ratios of 15 green: 1 zebra were observed in F2 generation of Wujin4B×Zhenshan97B and Wujin4B×Mian51B, indicated that zebra-leaf trait was controlled by two pairs of recessive loci. No Menddel's models were fitted in F2 generations of other crossess, which meant that zebra-leaf gene was affected by the unknown genetic backgrounds.Rice Wujin 4A had excellent agronomic characters. Male sterility was 100%, the exerted stigma was 61.45%. F1 showed significant positive heterosis in 1000-grain weight. The general combing ability of Wujin 4A was as same as Zhenshan97A, II-32A and Peiai64S. The special combing ability was similar to Zhenshan97A, but significantly higher than II-32A and Peiai64S.Compared with Shanyou63, the growth duration of combination from Wujin4A was longer by about 5days, large and heavy in panicles, the seed setting and 1000-grain weight were higher, and higher yields significantly .The false hybrid seeds in hybrid seeds came from male sterility line and restorer line. The seedlings with zebra-leaf trait could easily be found in seedlings stage. The purity of hybrid seeds and the male sterility line seeds could be identified.
