Further development of modern facility agriculture needs the support of the simulation on crop growth based on its discipline. In the past few years, the virtual plant model, which consists of many subjects and develops rapidly, has opened up a new way for the development of simulation on crop growth. And the simulation on the development of plant topological structure is one of the pivotal technologies to implement virtual plants.In order to simulate actual plant growth effectively and objectively and benefit the future research on agriculture and forestry, the simulation research were carried on integrated with the plant growth mechanism, applying the method of L-system, aiming at the internal and external factors of plant growth.The expression mechanism of simulating plant by applying L-system was researched on the basis the fractal character of plant shape. Those usual forms of L-system, such as DOL-system, stochastic OL-system, parametric L-system and context-sensitive L-system, were discussed systematically and their expression character were analyzed respectively, which prepared a solid base for the application of L-system method to simulating plant growth.In terms of simulating plant growth by applying L-system method, the simulation research regarding growing towards light, apical dominance, pruning, suffering from insects and the allocation of nutritive matter among organs, were carried out, integrated with plant growth mechanism,...
