Based on the theories and principles of photochemistry and modern chemical isolation and purification methods, the chemical constituents in the seeds of A. polygama Maxim have been studied with the combination of conventional and new methods, then we give a review on the research advances in this thesis. The systematically preliminary tests have been done by the methods of the tube-test. It was found that the seeds of A.polygama contains flavonoids and its glycosides, steroids, terpenoids, organic acid ,volatile oil ,fats and polycarbohydrates; maybe contains saponin, cardiac glycosid, AA, protein; no enthraquinones and its glycosides. The rate of fats in the petroleum extract is 56%,so we give a analysis for it by means of gas chromatography. The main constituents are Gamma linolenic, linoleic acid ,oleic and palmitic and their content is 69.28 %,12.54 %,12.29 % and 5.97 % respectively. Six compounds were isolated from petroleum ether extract and the ethyl acetate extract of seeds by means of solvent extraction, column chromatography on silica gel, purification. Their structures of CH-1, CH-3 and CH-7 were elucidated as ?-sitosterol, benzoic acid and 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-Funancarboxaldehyde on basis of their spectral data (MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR) and the other compounds have not been identified. The fungicidal activities had been first studied on petroleum ether extract, ethyl acetate extract, n-butanol extract and water residues. It showed certain fungistasis aganist Glomerella cingulata and Alternaria longipes when the concentration of the four samples was 3300 μg/mL.The insecticidal activities on Mythimna separata Walker and other fungicidal activities against Gibbere zeae, Glomerella cingulata, Fusarium solani, Exserohilum turcicum, Alternaria longipes and Bipolaris sorokiniana. had also been studied.
