The fruit of Momordica charantia L (balsam pear) were chosen as materials of study in this research. The extract of Momordica charantia L was got from the fruit by the biochemistry methods. The bioassay of Heliothis armigera and beet armyworm was done using it. In addition, the inhibition activity of it was tested in this research. The main results followed as below:1. The extraction techniques of active components from Momordica charantia L. were studied. On the base of the single factor experiments, the ratio of raw material to ethanol, extraction temperature, time and the extracting times were selected as four factors to design the orthogonal test and the optimum condition of extraction techniques was obtained. The results showed the optimum condition for extraction techniques is following: the ethanol content is 80%, ratio of raw material to ethanol is 1:40, extracting temperature is 60°C, the total extracting time is 6h, and extracting times is twice.2. The extract of Momordica charantia L. had contact toxicity to beet armyworm. The rectified rate of death was 72% 48h later; the extract had no contact toxicity to Heliothis armigera. The extract had antifeeding activity to Heliothis annigera and beet armyworm. The rate of antifeeding of the extract with diluting 30 times,20 times and lOtimes to beet armyworm was 60.02% and 56.215 at24h and 48h; To Heliothis armigera, the rate was 50.64 % and 54.09%; The rectified rate of death to beet armyworm was 50.64%and 54.09% at 24h and 48h, to Heliothis annigera, the rate was 42.5%and 79.60%3. The antimicrobial action of extract of Momordica charantia L with a series of bacterium and fungi were studied. The results showed that the extract of Momordica charantia L can effectively inhibit the growth of bacterium and some yeast. The extract cannot effectively inhibit the growth of molds. The mechanism of antimicrobe needs further study.
