Cucumis melon L. is one of the important distinctive agricultural resources in Hami, Xin Jinag. However, its planting area and yield is comparatively small, hence, it can hardly meet the increasing demand of the overseas and domestic markets .This paper briefly reviews and analyzes the historical and present condition of Cucumis melon L production in Xin-Jinag. Studies its feasibility and correlates the technical measures of planting and popularizing in the coastal areas of Guang-Dong Province. The study is based on biological characteristics of Cucumis melon L., the comparison betweenthe climatic features of Xin-Jiang and the coastal areas of Guang-Dong Province. It is also based on the summary and analysis of the melon planting experiments in Nan' ao, Guang- Dong and the successful experience of growing melons on a trial basis in three coastal areas, namely, Zhu-Hai, Shen-Zhen and Nan' ao:1. Hami, with a long history of cucumis melon L., is the original producing place. With the perfect climate condition for the growth of cucumis melon L., it is highly competitive in the southern melon and fruit market. However , there still exist many problems , which limit the further development of the industry in this area2. A breed-comparison experiment is conducted in soilless cultivation condition in the greenhouse, using four different breeds of cucumis melon L. as the subjects. The findings show that the Golden Phoenix and Yaxiang have the best comprehensive performance, while Xiangfei Mi comes next. These three breeds have excellent fruits, high yield, high quality, and are virus-resistent in low-temperature conditions. This proves that it is practical to publicize its planting in the coastal areas of Guangdong Province.3. The post-pollination growth of cucumis melon L the fruits is S-shaped. From zero to five days after the pollination, the diameter and theweight of the fruit grows comparatively slowly; From 5 to 25 days, the fruit expands rapidly; and the growing speed of both the diameter and the weight is the fastest; from 25 days to its ripe time, the diameter and the weight of the fruit develop rather slowly. During this time, the quality of the fruit is being improved. The dissolvable solid content changes little within 25 to 40 days, yet from 45 days on it increases rapidly.4. A research is done into Photosynthetic properties of individual leaves of cucumis melon L. in the field conditions. The findings indicate that upon the unfolding of leaves, both leaf area and the photosynthetic capacity of new leaves increase in logarismic mode. The duration of efficient photosynthesis of individual leaves is about four weeks. This proves the necessity of enforcing sunshine conditioning through technical measures.5. To enhance the quality of the cucumis melon L, the best mixed fertilizer should be used. Animal manure such as hen dung, pig dung, cattle dung, sheep dung are the sencond best. Such compound fertilizers as N, P> K can be used in the soil. Sugar can be sprayed on the leaves as the best activator to enhance the sweetness in the fruit. For the midty-season breed, the highest yield and best profit can be achieved with the ideal cultivation intensity of every 1,800 plants in every 667 square meters. It is better that the late-season breed not be Guangdong.
