The purpose of this study was to analyse the combining ability and gene effect of starch gelatinisation characters and flour whiteness in common winter wheat variety. In order to provide guidance in winter wheat breeding with good gelatinisation character and high flour whiteness, 16 F1 hybrids derived from incomplete diallel cross with 8 wheat varieties were used to analyse the combining ability and heribility of flour gelatinisation character and whiteness. In addition, the relationship of combining ability of starch gelatinisation character and whiteness between main quality traits and agronomic traits were discussed. The main results were as follows:1 The additive effect made main contribution for starch viscosity character, starch viscosity should be selected in early generation. The analysis of combining ability revealed that the range of relative effect value of GCA of breakdown viscosity was the biggest in seven starch visco parameters. It ranged from–19.79% to 12.24%, and the maximum value of variance was 39.81%. The relative effect value of GCA of through viscosity was–24.78%~12.89%, -20.08%~8.39%, -19.86%~8.17%, and the maximum of variance value was 36.79%, 28.47%, 28.03% respectively. The maximum value of variance of setback viscosity was 18.92%, which showed the relative effect value of GCA significantly between starch visco parameters and different varieties. The analysis of combining ability revealed that the variance of both GCA and SCA had reached the significant level. The variance of all the RVA parameters were higher than 80%, while the variances of the main quality traits except protein content and sedimentation time had reached 70%, were all lower than 40%. So the additive effect made more contribution for starch viscosity character, protein content and sedimentation time, while both the additive effect and dominance effects were important for other qualities traits. The analysis of narrow heribility showed similar result, the narrow heribility...
