The objective was to investigate the effects of Chinese yam on growth performance, immune function and the physiological and biochemical serum index in broilers. One hundred and fifty Avian broilers were divided randomly into 5 groups, of which, 3 groups for 1%, 2% and 4% of Chinese yam respectively, one group for antibiotic and one group for control. The results were showed as follows:Experiment 1. In this section, the nutrients, such as water, protein, starch, fat, polysaccharide, and mineral elements in Chinese yam, was analyzed and the results showed that Chinese yam contains abundant content of protein, polysaccharide, mineral elements and so on.. Of which, crude protein accounted for 11.65 g/kg DM, and soluble non-starch polysaccharide, with important medicine activity, accounted for 2.81 g/kg DM.Experiment 2. One hundred and fifty Avian chickens at age of 1 days were divided randomly into five groups in this experiment. The experiment last 49 days. The results showed that:At 1~21days, the ADG of 1% group was significantly higher than other four groups (P<0.05), but no obvious differences were observed among the other four groups. There were obvious differences in the ratio of feed to gains between 1% group and other three (P<0.05). At 36~49 days, the ADG of 4% yam group and the Zn-B groups was significantly higher than other three groups (P<0.05),but no obvious differences were observed between the three groups. At 36~49 days, there were no obvious differences in growth among the five groups. There was no obvious difference between the 4% Chinese yam groups and others in the performance. It was proved that the antibiotic additive could be replaced or partly replaced by Chinese yam to get a same in performance in broiler chicken.Experiment 3. Sixty Arian broiler chicks were used to study the effect of Chinese yam powder on dietary nutrient metabolism. The results showed that the metabolizable energy was the highest when Zn-B was added in the diet. Compared with that of the control group, both group Zn-B and group 2%Yam powder improved the metabolizable energy by 9.40% and 7.68% respectively, while all the Yam groups had no significant differences (P>0.05). The digestibility of DM was significantly different compared with that of the control group (P<0.05), while that of the metabolizable energy, CP and EE were insignificantly different from control group (P>0.05), when group 2% was added in the diet. The lever of TP, ALB and HDL of the group 4% Yam were higher than that of other groups , but no significant difference were observed(P>0.05). Compared with that of the Zn-B group, the group 4%Yam powder was lowed the lever of LDL significantly (P<0.05).Experiment 4. Compared with control group, the weight and the relative weight of thymuses, bursa and spleens of experiment group increased significantly in 3 week (P<0.05). The diet supplemented yam could boost the early development of thymus and bursa, retard the degenerating of bursa and promote the immune response of spleen. However, At 21days, here were no obvious differences in IgA, IgG, among the five groups. At 49 days, The lever of IgA of the group 2% Yam were higher than that of other groups , and significant difference were observed(P<0.05). And the group of 4% Yam powder enhanced lever of IgM no significantly (P>0.05).
