Micro-endosperm super high oil corn (Abbreviation:MEC. The same as below) is a new corn material which has different characteristics from other corn types . Now the measuring were taken on the weight and oil percentage of kernel, the weight and oil percentage of embryo and OSK(The other section of a kernel except embryo. Abbreviation:OSK. The same as below) which from 2400 kernels of 24 materials in 10 corn types, such as MEC (Zea mays L.), common high oil corn and so on. The different characteristics between MEC and the others could be found. The correlativities of main characteristics from the 10 corn types were investigated. At the same time ,the kernel aleurone layer thickness from 10 corn types were also measured. The microstructure of kernel and aleurone layer were preliminary studied. The results showed as follows:1. The kernel weight of 11 MEC materials from 3 types were the minimum. Their means were under 0.1g less than other 13 materials of 7 corn types. Variance analysis showed that there were not significant difference in kernel weight among 3 MEC types. But there were very significant difference in kernel weight among 3 MEC types andglutinous corn, common high oil corn, common sweet corn, and common flint corn.2. The kernel oil percentage of 11 MEC materials from 3 types were higher than the others. But variance analysis showed that there were not significant difference in kernel oil percentage among 3 MEC types. The significant difference in kernel oil percentage between 3 MEC types and other 7 corn types were found.3. The embryo weight of 11 MEC materials from 3 types were not the highest. Apart from glutinous corn, they had little difference with other 6 corn types. Variance analysis showed that there were not significant difference in embryo weight among 3 MEC types. There were also not significant difference between 3 MEC types and other 6 corn types except the very significant difference with glutinous corn. But the ratio of embryo weight/kernel weight in 3 MEC types were higher than that of other 7 corn types.
