Agropyron desertorum cv.nordan and Elymus sibiricus L. are important grass species for artificial grassland establishment and eco-environmental restoration in northern and northwestern China. Many theoretical and practical problems need to be probed in the seed qualities of the two species. In this research, effects of fertilizer application on seed qualities of the two grasses, in terms of germination performance, storability and tolerance to salt stress, were studied on seeds harvested from crops treated with different fertilizer applications in Duolun County of Inner Mongolia. The effects of fertilizer applications of N,P,K, separately or in combination, and trace elements B,Mn,Zn,Mo on seed qualities of Agropyron desertorum cv.nordan and Elymus sibiricus L. were investigated. Seed qualities of both of the two species were assessed in the harvesting year and after three years storage through a number of testings of standard germination, germination after accelerated aging, germination under salt stress, etc. The results show that applications of N,P,K fertilizers, separately or in combination, and spraying of trace elements, had no obvious effects on seed germinability, storability, seed cold resistance and seedling emergence. However, application of N,P,K fertilizers, separately or in combination, and spraying of trace elements, had some effects on seed salt resistance of Agropyron desertorum cv.nordan and Elymus sibiricus L. after three years storage. Applying P,PK,NPK fertilizers had positive effects on seed salt resistance of Agropyron desertorum cv.nordan, but applying N,NP,PK,NPK fertilizers had negative effects on seed salt resistance of Elymus sibiricus L. Spraying of trace elements Mo had positive effects, but spraying of trace elements B,Mn,Zn had negative effects, on seed salt resistance of Agropyron desertorum cv.nordan. Spraying of trace elements B,Mn,Zn,Mo had positive effects on seed salt resistance of Elymus sibiricus L..
