Prunus avium is the faster growth cultivated species, which can bring much benefit to the fruit grower. It is shallow rooted plant so it is sensitive to waterlogging stress. The sweet cherry plant is becoming depauperation because of waterlogging, and even died. This brings tremendous loss to the cherry industry.Cherry rootstock is the key facter of Prunus avium production. Therefore, the research on the dynamic changes of cherry-rootstock's physiological and biochemical characteristics has important value of theory and practical significance. The experiment was carried out in the root laboratory of horticulture science and engineering college of shangdong agriculture university from 2004 to 2005,in which three-year-old clone rootstocks(Daqingye,Colt,Damil ) and satus rootstocks (Prunus serrulata G.Don,Prunus mahaleb L.) were studied. The research studied the change trend of some physiological and biochemical characteristics of cherry rootstocks during the waterlogging ,and the relationship of some physiological and biochemical characteristics and Waterlogging-resistance.This can be the theory gist of selecting cherry rootstock with higher waterlogging resistance. The main results were as follows:1. The rate of respiration of roots always went down during waterlogging. The rate of respiration of ligneous-roots was higher than that of non- ligneous roots afer six days of waterlogging. The rate of respiration of cherry rootstock with stronger waterlogging-resistance went down slowly. The cherry rootstock with stronger waterlogging-resistance had lower rate of respiration in the early days of waterlogging, but sustained higher rate of respiration in the last days of waterlogging.2. The cherry rootstock with stronger waterlogging-resistance had higher activity of ADH in early days, and more later the time of the pinnacle of the activity of ADH arrived more better.3. The activity of POD and ASA-POD played a dominant part in clearing...
