Study On The Evaluation Of Tarim Populus Euphratica Nature Reserve According To The IUCN Protected Area System

The Tarim Populous Euphratica Nature Reserve is located in the middle reach of the Tarim River,Xinjiang . It is not only the world's largest intact and unfrequented area of populus euphratica forests, but also plays great significant role in maintaining the ecological balances of the Tarim Basin, protecting the Tarim River , conservation of biodiversity, preventing the desertification and providing scientific research. It is established as Populous Euphratica Nature Conservation Area in 1983 and is promoted as National Class Populous Euphratica Nature Reserve by State Council in 2006.In this paper, trying to determined the classification type of Traim Populous Euphratica Nature Reserve according to the IUCN(International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural resources) conservation area classification system and according to its criteria choose some evaluation indicators .Data for this study collected through field research and laboratory analyze. We conducted field research in the study area on July 2004, Apr 2005, Au 2005. The survey included: understand of present status of the nature reserve , human interference degree on nature reserve, natural types and distribution of animals ; interview the herdsman ;write down the vegetation growth condition at different 110 points along the Tarim River using GPS and took field sight pictures. Using Delpli method to determined the important degree of every evaluation indicators and the management objectives .At the same time, indicators are analyzed by clastering analyze method. The results showed that Tarim Populous Euphratica Nature Reserve belongs to strict nature reserve according to IUCN conservation area classification system's criterion. Meanwhile, analyzed the existing problems on this area such as blindly reclamation and deforestation, weakness of economic foundation, lackness of technology, educational infrastructure imperfect, protection and sustainable use of resources is not appropriate .Besides ,discusses management method such as constitute management roles, training managing staff, strengthening scientific research on wildlife , study the evolution mechanisms of natural forest ,encourage scientists to conduct studies, strengthening propagandize and education, make full use of...
