Research On Growth Mediums And Fertilization For Eucalyptus Maideni F.Muel

Pot experiments were used to study the growth mediums and fertilization for eucalyptus Maideni F. Mitel. The seedlings of eucalyptus were grown in various materials, including purple soils, sands, peat, vermiculites and chaffs, for selection of best components in culture mediums by orthogonal random design. Then multiple element regressions were established to optimize mixtures of the materials and to obtain the prescription of culture mediums suitable to eucalyptus by the homo-design. Finally, 311-A Optimization compound design was used to investigate the effects of nutrients on the growth of the seedlings and to obtain the optimal fertilization scheme. The results were showed as follow:The prescriptions suitable to culture eucalyptus seedlings were selected by observation of their height and biomass. They were A2, A9, B1, B3, B7 and B11. Taking into the account of the cost, the prescription A2 being composed of neutral purple soils and peat (3:1) was best for the culture of eucalyptus seedlings.The range obtained in the orthogonal experiment indicated that the components in culture mediums influenced the growth of the seedlings, which changed in the sequence: the rate of soils to peat, soil types and additional materials. The analysis of interaction effect suggests that sands without peat and vermiculate with peat were most suitable to be a nurse medium. There was a great effect of the ratio of soil/peat on the growth of the seedlings.The indexes of seedling growth but the ratio of root/shoot were highest in treatment 5 in contrast to those which showed lowest in treatment 6. The concentrations of nutrients were higher in the seedlings in treatment 3, 6 and 7 than those in treatment 2.Greater effects of peat were found on height, biomass and root/shoot ratio of eucalyptus seedlings than sands.
