Fifteen Castanea henryi cultivars (cultivated varieties) were studied on physiological and biochemic, yield and quality characteristics at Tongkou national forest farm of Minhou. cutting orchard of Jianou city and laboratory in Fujian agriculture and forestry university from 2003 to 2006, in order to provide theoretical basis for high yield and quality breeding and reasonable cultivating of C. henryi. The cultivated varieties included C.henryi. 'Dajianzui' , C.henryi.'Zhongjianzui', C.henryi. 'Chushuhong', C.henryi. 'Youzhen', C.henryi. 'Wenyangyoutongzii', C.henryi. 'Zhongzhen' ,C.henryi. 'Ouningzi' , C. henryi. 'Bailuzi' ,C.henryi. 'Huangzhen' , C.henryi. 'Renzuili' ,C.henryi. ' Wenkengyoutongzi' , C.henryi. ' Wukechangmang' , C.henryi.'Wuzhen' , C.henryi. 'Youlizi' and C.henryi. 'Hongzizhen' . The results showed that C. henryi cultivars had significant difference in physiological and biochemic, yield and quality characteristics. The results were as fellows:1. Changes of chlorophyll content in C. henryi leaves at different development stagesThe chlorophyll content of fifteen C. henryi cultivars had the same changing trends. They increased continually and reached the peak at initial fruiting period, but it increase slower from initial flowering period to initial fruiting period. Then it decreased obviously from initial fruiting period to autumn. The chlorophyll content of C.henryi cv.Zhongzhen, C.henryi 'Youzhen', C.henryi ' Wengkengyoutongzi', C.henryi ' Wenyangyoutongzi' and C.henryi 'Ouningzi' were higher during all the growth period, and that of C.henryi 'Wuzhen' and C.henryi ' Renzuili' were lower.2. Changes of NR activity in C. henryi leaves at different development stagesThe NR activity of 15 henry chestnut had the same changing trends. It decreased slowly from leaf date to flowering period, then increased significantly and reached the peak at initial fruiting period. At last, it decreased again. The NR activity of Zhongzhen was the highest during all the growth period. The NR activity of C.henryi ' Wengkengyoutongzi' and C.henryi Chushuhong ' were much higher only at leaf date.The NR activity of C.henryi 'Wukechangmang', C.henryi 'Dajianzui' and C.henryi 'Youzhen ' were much lower at leaf date, but they increased rapidly at flowering period and remained the high level. 3.Changes of the content of soluble protein in C. henryi leaf at different development stagesThe soluble protein content of fifteen C. henryi cultivars had the same changing trend. Firstly ,they had the low soluble protein content at leaf date. Then they increased gradually and reached the peak at initial fruiting period. At last it was back to the low content at autumn.The soluble protein content of C.henryi 'Zhongzhen' was the highest during all the growth period.
