Treatment Of Type I Gastric Neuroendocrine Tumor With Traditional Chinese Medicine

Type I gastric neuroendocrine tumors are found in the patients of chronic atrophic gastritis, whicn leads to gastric acid reduction, resulting in hypergastrinemia. Hypergastrinemia stimulates proliferation of ECL cells, then to atypical hyperplasia, to the formation of tumor. The prognosis of Type I gastric neuroendocrine tumors is benign, with low risk of local and distant metastasis, and low mortality. Given the benign prognosis, there has not been a consensus on the choice of medical therapy versus surgical management. Small and polypoid tumors take endoscopic resection; larger or multiple tumors will take antrectomy; If tumor relapses, it is necessary to take a total gastrectomy. Medicine treatment usually includes adjusting intragastric acidification environment or octreotide treatment, at the same time, close endoscopic surveillance is needed. There are few reports about the treatment of this disease with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Objective:The purpose of this paper is to explore the effectiveness of Chinese medicine for the treatment of type I gastric neuroendocrine tumors.Method:We select8patients of the follow-up time over1year and complete data from22type I gastric neuroendocrine tumors diagnosed in our department, and treatd them with TCM. Before this studay, all the patients received endoscopic examination and assay of serum gastrin. Then every3and6months, these patients would receive the examinations and assay of serum gastrin again.Result:After the treatment,6of the8patients showed the decrease of the serum gastrin, and the other2cases increased significantly. Among them5patients showed the stable conditions with no new lesions and even the regression of the tumors; New lesions were found in the remaining3cases.Conclusion:Through this small sample test, we can draw that the Chinese medicine treatment has a certain effect on the Type1gastric neuroendocrine tumors.
