Objective: The patients are randomly divided to be observed on the surroundingacupuncture clinical efficacy towards external humeral epicondylitis.Materials and methods:48patients with external humeral epicondylitistreated at outpatient were randomly divided into treatment group and controlgroup, n=24for each group according to registration order. In the treatmentgroup, the patients were surrounding acupuncted together with blockade therapyon the most pain pots around the epicondylus extensorius. Acupuncture therapywas applied once a day with needle retention for30minutes while blockadetreatment was applied once a week.3weeks was a treatment course. The patientsin control group were treated only with blockade therapy. The treatment coursewas the same as the treatment group: once a week and3weeks as a course. Thepatients were compared and contrasted in aspects of Visual Analogue Scale (VAS),grip strength index and elbow movement score before and after treatment. Followup visitations were carried out on patients one month after treatment to observethe improvement of clinical symptom, and clinical recovery rate.Results:1.The total effective rate of surrounding acupuncture treatment group and thecontrol group were respectively79.17%,70.83%(P <0.05).The efficacy oftreatment group is superior to that of the control group, and the advantage wasstatistically significant. The recovery rate were37.5%,29.17%respectively.Treatment group was superior to control group and the difference was ofstatistical significance (P <0.05).2. There was no significant difference of movement function state between the elbows with external humeral epicondylitis within different groups beforetreatment. The two groups were comparable. It is significant (P <0.05) thatthe treatment group has its obvious advantage over the control group to treatexternal humeral epicondylitis in aspect of improving elbow movement.3. There was no significant difference of grip strength index between thepatients with external humeral epicondylitis within different groups beforetreatment. The two groups were comparable. It is significant (P <0.05) thatthe treatment group has its obvious advantage over the control group to treatexternal humeral epicondylitis in aspect of improving the patients with theirgrip strength.4. There was no significant difference of pain level between the elbows withexternal humeral epicondylitis within different groups before treatment. Thetwo groups were comparable. It is significant (P <0.05) that the treatment grouphas its obvious advantage over the control group to treat external humeralepicondylitis in aspect of analgesia of elbows.5. In comparison of the relationship between disorder course of external humeralepicondylitis, and the treatment efficacy of the treatment group, it is learntthat the total effective rate was35.7%for the patients with external humeralepicondylitis for no longer than one month and70%for the patients who had hadexternal humeral epicondylitis for1month to6months before treatment, whichshowed that the longer course of external humeral epicondylitis the patientshad, the better treatment efficacy will the patients acquire from surroundingacupuncture therapy.Conclusions:1. It is satisfying, safe and convenient to treat the patients who has external humeralepicondylitis with surrounding acupuncture therapy, which is better than withtraditional blockade therapy of the control group.2. It is of great advantage to treat the patients who has external humeral epicondylitis with surrounding acupuncture therapy over blockade therapy alone in aspect ofelbow movement improvement.3. It is of significant treatment efficacy for surrounding acupuncture therapyin treatment of external humeral epicondylitis in aspect of grip strength indeximprovement.4. It is of significant treatment efficacy for surrounding acupuncture therapyin treatment of external humeral epicondylitis in aspect of analgesia.5.From surrounding acupuncture therapy, the patients who have had externalhumeral epicondylitis for more than a month will acquire better treatmentefficacy than that less than one month.
