(a) Species investigation, specimen identification and literatures retrieving of the medicinal plants in Compositae family occurring in Mount Lao were carried out for the reasonable development and utilization of the plant resources. Results showed that145species of this family were found belonging to69genera, accounting for82.9%and88.5%of the total species and genera in Shandong Province and6.3%and29.4%of the total species and genera in China, respectively. Among them,106species (about73.1%of total species) of them were of medicinal value which containing various pharmaceuticals such as polysaccharide, alkaloid, steroid saponin and flavone. Some suggestions for protection and exploitation of the medicinal plants in Compositae family occurring in Mount Lao were proposed.(b) The Chinese Pharmacopoeia indicates the use of field thistle (Cirsium setosum) and Japanese field thistle (Cirsium japonicum) in the treatment of bleeding. Both species could be used in fresh or in dry, but more common in carbon by fried processing, however the hemostatic mechanism by fried carbon of the two species have not been studied. Here, we determined the change of some bioactive components by HPLC in the two species with different degree of fried processing. Results show that there are some regular changes in the bioactive components of both species with different degree of fried processing, the correlation between the hemostatic mechanism and the bioactive components were discussed.
