Purpose:To explore and discuss application value of carotid ultrasonography in pre-operation disease assessment and post-operation follow-up of Carotid endarterectomy(CEA).Material and method:Conduct Color Doppler ultrasonography on carotid artery of 32 cases of patients who are ready for CEA treatment before operation(complying to CEA indication after preliminary screening), and proceed three-dimensional reconstruction on essential part and region of interest, and proceed follow-up visits afterwards at regular intervals. Mainly by observing different types and features of carotid atherosclerosis plaque in ultrasonoscopy, to evaluate nature of plaque, to measure and calculate relevant index parameter, to work out overall evaluation on lesion of carotid artery. The follow-up visits applied at regular intervals to assess the curative effect after CEA and diagnose the complication on the short and long term basis.Results:Color Doppler ultrasonography have been done on all of the 32 patients in this study, and proceed three-dimensional reconstruction on region of interest. Among 32 patients, 30 of them are suitable for CEA and 2 are not. Eventually, unilateral CEA are conducted on 30 patients, and proceed follow-up visits afterwards at regular intervals. The research result shows: ultrasonography before CEA can work out overall evaluation on patients’ lesion of carotid artery, based on experiments statistical analysis, after CEA, surgical spot improved obviously comparing with before opration in terms of inner diameter of artery and parameters of haemodynamics(P<0.001). Ultrasonography can timely find error during operation and after operation of CEA and complication, which is a good means of follow-up visit. Three-dimensional ultrasonic imaging can completely display spatial layout of interior passway, and has advantage in the aspect of showing skip lesions.Conclusion:CEA is the most effective surgical method for treating carotid artery stenosis. Ultrasound has application value in CEA treatment. Evaluate overall situation of carotid artery before operation, forecast feasibility of operation, help surgical doctors choose operation opportunity; and provide data and index for testing carotid artery, and it is the objective basis for evaluating treatment effect of CEA; As it is easy to handle, flexible, and with low cost etc., it is also preferred means for follow-up visit after CEA. Among which, three-dimensional ultrasound reconstruction can display the space structure and situation of interior passway of blood vessel, display surface morphology and stereochemical structure of plaque, with more intuitional image, which can be easily understood by clinician, to provide more image information to surgical doctors, and it can be supplement means and auxiliary diagnosis of Color Doppler ultrasound.
