Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.), which has salt-tolerant, drought-resistant, strong resistance and other characteristics, is an economic crop with the use of food, medicine, industry and so on. Although it has been widely developed and utilized as an oil-bearing crop at abroad, it has been a typical"not yet fully used"crop in China by the reasons of low production, poor product development and other reasons. Twenty representative cultivaled species were collected and the physiological responses of salt tolerance and agronomic characters were analysed in this paper. In order to provide practical guidance for yield, and to provide academic basis and scientific gist for breeding. The main results were as follows:1. The changes of the amount of chlorophyll (Chl), malondialdehyde (MDA), soluble sugar (SS), as well as the activity of three antioxidant enzymes (SOD, POD, and CAT) were investigated after treated with different concentration of NaCl stress, and the salt tolerant abilities of twenty Safflower varieties were evaluated by the fuzzy subordination methods. The results showed that: (1) with the increase of salt concentration, Chla, Chlb and the total chlorophyll content of Yanjindahongpao, Baisha No.2, Nanyang safflower, Yucheng safflower and Fengqiu safflower were decreased gradually, while others increased firstly, then decreased. (2) the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and soluble sugar (SS) enhanced significantly, and the soluble protein content increased at first, and decreased at end. (3) the activity of POD and CAT were higher at first, and declined at end, and the differences were prominent The SOD activity was not the dependable index to appraise the salt tolerance because it was inapparent, (4) the salt resistances of the twenty varieties decreased in the order of Taikong No.1>Heze safflower>Yixian safflower> Fengqiu safflower>Baisha No.1>Shan safflower>Nanyang safflower>Baisha No.2>Bozhou safflower>Yucheng safflowe>Yunhong No.3>Jiuquan safflower>Chuan safflower>Ningxia safflower > Yanjin safflower > Xinjiangyouci safflower > Anguo safflower > Yanjindahongpao > Ci safflower>Xinjiangwuci safflower by the evaluated of the fuzzy subordination methods.2. Through relational analysis of grey system, twelve important agricultural characters of twenty Safflower varieties were comprehensive evaluation and quantatively evaluated. Then the qualities of varieties were objective graded The results showed that comparing with the equweighted incidence sequence and weighted incidence sequence, the weighted incidence sequence could more accurately reflect many properties. the comprehensive characters of Ningxia Safflower was the best, the equweighted incidence sequence (ri=0.9329) and weighted incidence sequence (ri'=0.9791) were in the first situation. Next to Baisha No.2 (ri'=0.7734), the comprehensive characters of Shan Safflower was the worst. The wholly-assessed results accorded with the expression of the varieties in agricultural production. We consided that there was a directive significance to the breeding and exploitation of new varieties of barley.
