This paper was conducted to evaluat effects of essential oil and antibiotics on the rumen fermentation and gas production of the Inner Mongolian white Cashmere goats in vitro. This study included two parts:the first trial was to study effects of different doses of essential oil (thymol 20 mg/L,100 mg/L,200 mg/L) and antibiotics (monensin 5 mg/L,10 mg/L,20 mg/L) and the both (20 (T)mg/L+4(M) mg/L,100 (T)mg/L+18(M) mg/L,200 (T)mg/L+36(M) mg/L) on rumen fermentation of Inner Mongolia Cashmere Goat in vitro 24-h batch culture of rumen fluid with four forage:concentrate (10:90,20:80,30:70) diets, Volatile fatty acids, pH, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and ammonia nitrogen were determined after 24-h incubation. The second trial was to study effects of essential oil and antibiotics on rumen gas production, gas chromatogr-aphy were used to determine gas production and methane emission, respectively.(1)The results of first trial showed that the rumen fermentation were influenced strongly by addition of different doses of essential oil and antibiotics, incubated liquid pH,propionate concentration, butyrate concentration, acid, detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber were increased, and acetate concentration,acetate/propionate ratio were decreased. In four forage:concentrate diets, pH and acetate/propionate ratio were lower; total VFA concentration, ammonia acetate concentration, propionate concentration, butyrate c-oncentration, acid detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber were increased in rumen fluid with forage:concentrate 20:80 (clover),30:70 (grass) diets.(2)The results of second trial showed that gas production and methane emission were influenced strongly by addition of different doses of essential oil and antibiotics. methane emission was decreased gas production was increased. In four forage:concentrate diets, methane emission and gas production were increa-sed in rumen fluid with forage:concentrate 20:80(clover),30:70 (grass) diets.,(3) In conclusion of two trial. According to MFAEI,addition of thymol and monens-in at a proper level could change the fermentation pattern, increase the concentration of propionate, and inhibit methanogenesis. The optimal supplemental doses of thymol and monensin were 200mg/L and 20mg/L respectively.
