In this thesis, the liquefaction testing of Chinese fir took phenol as liquefied agent, selecting concentrated sulfuric acid as the catalyst; besides, this thesis analysed the changes of the surface of residue during liquefaction with fractal analysis for the first time. Changes of groups and mechanism of reaction were analysed by SEM, FTIR, and XRD. The result was as follows:(1) In the process of Chinese fir liquefaction, the variation trend of residual rate was descending, and the residue rate was in the maximum when in 30minutes, while the rate in the minimum when in 180minutes.(2) The ingredients of residue are gradually becoming material which was of small molecular and high reactivity from the polymer under the same temperature as the reaction time was increasing. The final liquefaction residue was a complex mixture, containing hydrocarbons, phenols and esters and other compounds.(3) The XRD analysis of liquefaction residue showed that amorphous region was earlier damaged than crystalline region so that the crystallinity could be in the trend of increasing in the liquefaction process of Chinese fir in most cases. However, cellulose crystalline regionin was also beginning to be destroyed under the high liquefied temperature or in the cases of high liquid ratio, leading to the relative decreased trend of crystallinity.(4) The fractal dimension range of Chinese fir liquefaction residue surface was 2.300~2.269, and there were some surface features which was similar to two dimensions. The fractal dimension changes of Chinese fir liquefaction residue surface was gradually decreasing and was close to 2, while the residue surface was smooth with the liquefaction reacting.
