Recently, with the industrial structure adjustment of agriculture, greenhouse tomato production has increasingly become the main part of greenhouse industry in Xi'an suburb. But without any necessary guidance in the production process, farmers promote the yield simply through increasing the times and dosage of pesticide. Consequently, the abuse of chemical pesticides in greenhouse tomato cultivation was quite common and has greatly influenced greenhouse vegetable production and polluted the environment, even endangered people's health. This study conducted research on selection of resistant varieties and test of environment-friendly pest control technology. The results were summarized as follows:1. Resistant varieties were screened, which suitable for growing in greenhouse of Xi'an suburb. Comparing with the prevalent local varieties, hardy-fruit varieties indicated better resistance to the diseases. Varieties MaWa, 73-45, American N. 4, TaiKong N. 1 grew better than other varieties under local specific condition, the production was 15% higher than MaoFen 802. In addition, with character of long period of marketable fruit and convenient to transport, those varieties mentioned above show a better market prospect.2. Targeted at the key problems caused by gray mold (Botrytis cinerea) and whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporarionum), two practical measures were developed to control main diseases and pests in greenhouse. By contrasting traditional management, locating spray and insulate diseased crops are both low cost and high efficiency ways to control Botrytis blight. In practice, better results could be obtained by combining two ways to control disease. Comparing to conventional chemical control, a combination of the use of sticky yellow boards and pest-proof nets in some cases provided almost complete control of the whitefly in greenhouse. However, sustainable control effect was shown after using several biocontrol agents. Respectively, 1.8% abamectin EC 1000-fold solution, 0.26% matrine AS 1000-fold solution and 75% cyromazine WP 5000-fold solution reached sustainable and higher efficiency.3. This experiment aimed at the problems of disease and pest which appeared in the planting greenhouse tomato in Xi'an suburb, emphasizing on cultivation of resistant and unsuspected varieties, combined ecological, agricultural, physical and biological methods, assistant with high efficiency, lower residue and non-pollution pesticides to control main diseases and pests in greenhouse tomato fields. As a whole, a cost-effective, pollution free integrated management system was set up which brought more benefit to the farmers and the environment.
