This paper deals with fauna study on thrips of Thysanoptera in the central section of Gansu. It includes the following parts: resume, economic importance, materials and methods, biological character, fauna study, results and discussion. Firstly, the history and present situation both in home and abroad, taxonomic characters and situation are reviewed and outlined. Secondly, up to this study, the results of the this study indicate that there are 72 thrips species found out in the central section of Gansu, belonging to 13genera of Thripidae and 1geneus of Aeolothripidae of Terebrantia and 3genera of Phlaeothripidae of Tubulifera, of which 8species are new to science, 4species are reported from China for the first time, 7genera and 54species are recorded firstly in Gansu.7genera recorded firstly in Gansu are Bregmatothrips,Tusothrips,Stenchaetothrips,Psilothrips,Hoplandrothrips,Dolichothrips.Third-ly, the fauna characteristics of thrips of the central section of Gansu, mainly Lanzhou and Linxia are introduced. There are 48 species in Lanzhou, of which there are 23 palaearctic species, 47.92%; 13 oriental species, 27.83%; 12 widespread species, 24.25%. There are 49 species in Linxia, of which there are 24 palaearctic species, 48.06%; 12oriental species, 24.48%; 13 widespread species, 27.46%. And the relationship between thrips and its host plant is discussed. The description of new species includes the drawing of main external modal characteristic. The species catalogue of thrips in Gansu is listed. Finally, brief discussion of this study is made. And there are some photoes of the specimens of new species and familiar species and adult key of thrips in Gansu.New species and new records are as follows:New species: ( 1 ) Hoplandrothrips songmingyanensis He&Feng sp.nov ;( 2 )Bregmatothrips hongguensis sp.nov;(3)Psilothrips guangheensis sp.nov;(4)Taeniothrips yinjiensis sp.nov;(5)Anaphothrips chenopodium sp.nov;(6)Thrips hermerocallis sp.nov;(7)Dolichothrips flavescenus sp.nov;(8)Dolichothrips apeventricosus sp.nov.New records: (1)Thrips longiceps (Bagnall) n.rec; (2)Chirothrips ruptipennis Priesner n.rec; (3)Thrips novocaledonensis (Bianchi) n.rec;(4)Thrips extensicornis Priesner n.rec.
